Sonata

Description

First publication of a sonata movement uncatalogued by the composer yet kept by him for almost 60 years. Edited by Rupert Marshall-Luck and issued in collaboration with the Bliss Trust to mark the 50th anniversary of the composer’s death. Preface by Giles Easterbrook, an unswerving advocate of Bliss’s music, investigating the background to the work’s composition, including the relevance of the composer’s military service in World War I and the death of his brother in action, and his connection with other significant composers of the time, Elgar and Howells.
